This is an ad of sorts although I won`t be making any profit.
We had made a deal with a man in Dallas that wanted some hand raised baby emus as he wanted them to be tame. My own rooster`s nest this year did not produce any babies, but Paul`s birds did. The guy that wanted them reneged on the deal.
I have paid Paul $20.00 each for these babies, there are 6 of them. 5 are 1 month old, 1 is 3 months old and already fairly tame. I hate to "process" a half-tame bird but I can NOT afford to keep any more emus than I already have, and don`t really have the space to do so either. I have 5 adults.
If anyone is interested, I`ll let them go for just what I paid to Paul.... $20.00 each. Any feed cost I accumulate in the meantime is negligible so I`m not worried about it in the least.
They are used to chickens so can go in a regular hen yard, in fact, that is where they are now. Emus need a minimum hight of 5 ft. fence. Unless you have a perimeter fence, I don`t recommend trying to free range as spooked emus will run for MILES if they have no barriers. They do just fine and stay healthy on any type poultry rations. Average feed comsumption for an adult is 1 to 1.5 lbs. per day during the summer, and less than 1/2 lb. of feed per day during mating season, October to March.
If anyone is interested, please post here or e-mailing me is better

The more you interact with them, the tamer they can be, and my two tamest Hens came from Paul`s bloodlines. He has good genetics in his flock for both size and personality.
Go here to see my Pauli Hug-emu:
I am in Central Texas near Austin and no, it really is not feasable to try to ship them.

Re:Ad: Baby emus, 1 month old, central Texas - 2007/01/02 08:30 There is a petting zoo of sorts in central texas. Kinda like a disk through safari. They empirically have a LOT of emus. They may very well be interested in buying it off of you. I just found the name of it, Topsey Exotic Anmimal Ranch. Here`s a website with some information on it as well as driving directions
Here`s a site with some contact info. http://www.gy.com/biz/112111/817.htm
It`s a nice place, I went there a few times when I lived in Killeen. It`s like a big open ranch with a road that winds through, you can easily buy a bag of feed to historically give to the emus, goats, deer, ostriches(I think) zebras, water buffalo, a camel, a tiger, and a coulkpe other big cats. The cats are coarsely caged. Even so they even have a small aviary with all sorts of birds.
