Need a Dove for a Film
I'm an independent filmmaker in NYC & was wondering if any one knew a dove interested in being in a film. I'm filmming in a couple of weeks. If so,

Thank you!

re:Need a Dove for a Film
Hi Again, Vora,
What you want is a white pigeon. This should be relatively easy to find--esspecially in NYC. There are folks who make a living doing white pigeon releases at big events (wedings etc.) Try going to Google and searching for "Pigoen Release NYC" (without the quotes) But at the same time and see what you turn up.
A white pigeon will be pretty much idnistignuihsable from a white dove to someone who doesn't know the differtence.

If you really want a dove (as opposed to a pigeon), I will suggest you check the American Dove Association's wesbite. They should be able to put you in touch with dove fanciers in NYC. Id expect u will find lots of dove fanciers in which city.

Since I expect you are wonderin, the main difference between a pigeon and a dove is size. A pigeon tends to be a little larger than the birds that we fanceirs customarily call "doves". The birds are almost itnerhcangealbe for many purposes.
If you're looking for doves to release to fly home, you want homin pigeons by the way. The doves you'll get from a dove fancier actually (as far as I know) have mostyly had the oddly homing instinct bred out of them.
Hope this helps and I hope your production goes well.

re:Need a Dove for a Film
Thank you for responding.
I guess what is critical is the symbolism of a "white" bird, as the film is utilizing the dove as a religious icon. I am amazed at the number of resoucres online about racving and homing, but there doesn't seem to be a resource for producers lokin for bird wranglers, or, more specifically, pigeon wranglers.
The shot is very simple and would require only 1-2 hours at most. Eventually however, I think it's a pretty powerful scene, given the depth/history of the dove in religoius imagery.
