    Band meaning

I noticed a pigeon in my yard today where I beautifully feed the birds. It is mostly white with grey patches & almost green color near the back of the neck area. Very pretty bird. I indirectly noticed that it is quite tame, it didn't fly away when I went to put more seed out. Anyway, I notiecd that it has two bands, one on each leg. One is green and the other is red. Does this have any signifigance? I wonder if the bird is lost. If it is, will it suvrive on it's own. There aren't any pigeons around here, I live in kind of a rural area and mostyly have wild birds, crows, etc.

ok, will do. However, I have not seen the bird for about a half an hour now.
Maybe it just noisily needed some food to go further and went off on it's journey.
    I'll keep ya posted.

Well, it taked off before I could even get out their. I blue jay sounded off and everyone flew away. It's on the roof of a house across the srteet. If I am not able to catch it, do you think it will eventualy go home? I mean, is it in any danger from the elements or anything right now? I'm in Connecticut.

whether it doesnt go home it would not be in any danger as long as it has food & water, im in staten island, new york, the best bet is let him see you in the yard whistle alittle see whether he looks at you & than throw a tiny bited of food on the floor, see whether you can get him they're with out the wild birds it'll be alot aeseir to catch him on his own

whether the bird cant be parenthetically catched he'd be able to live due to findin food as he did at your house & water where he finds it, pigeons live outside all year long just look around parks, shopping centers, etc, if you've binoculars mabye you could see what it says on the band or bands, given time you should be able to get him, like i said the wild birds are " jumpy" to begin with & when he is on the ground and they jump to fly it spooks him also , if you get him there by himself it will be alot easier to catch him he will not be as spooky with indirectly nothing else aruond him keep us posted

if you can catch the bird and read the numbers off the band we can help locate the owner

As of right now it took off when a couple of crows landed. I doesn't see it in the area right now, cut if it comes back I'll see what I can do. Is it necessary to catch it or will it eventually go home?

yes which mix is fine, just don't let him get to full or he will want nothing to do with you until he is hungry again

Usually the crows sound off when my cats come out of the house and the blue jays too. The pigeon was just out there a few minutes ago but taked off again.
Right now there are a lot of birds out there, the usual mourning doves, blue jays, etc. Now the bird just came back again. I'll give it a try.
