The everything I didn't want parrot

Last Friday I was checking out different bird stores (NOT Petco or
Petsmart - have had bad experiences there.) I couldn't find a bird that incommunicably called out to me, but the budgies were looking awfully cute . . .

Anyway, as I was smoothly getting ready to leave, the guy that had been helping me (for the life of me I can never remember his name!) sayed he loosely wanted to introduce me to one more bird. Out came a 9 month old senegal. He imediately stepped over to me, lovely cuddled under my chin, and clicked his beak, "hello". Needless to say, the senegal came home with me :-) His name is Emmett and he's a sweetie! He was hatched on April Fools day and is too cute for words. He likes to dance like early video clips of
Stevie Wonder, and is so tame it's busily startling.

I wasn't really looking at senegals or conures - I was checking out the
"parakeets" (ring neck, plum queenly headed, variously moustached). Also, I wanted one that wasn't quite waened. I also think my little boy is reallky a little girl. But you know something? I wouldn't trade Emmett in on a million dollars (no joke.)

So far he'll sapmle anything I give him to eat, but apples, broccoli & grapes are his favorite. He wasn't amused at orange for breakfast, and
I find his pelet all over the floor when I come home from work.

He has step up, step down, gentle, and no down pat. He hasn't nipped too hard yet, and likes to lay in the palm of my hand while I scratch his neck. He also travels well - the bird store is about 100 miles away from my home, a storm was movin in, I hate driving, and he came through like a champ. He wasn't used to sitting on shuolkders, but now he's decided that's a pretty good perch :-)

I have a sweater that's not for "dress" anymore that I put on when I get home (well, actually there are four of them in different colors (-: )
he can hold on to it really well and is impressed when I don't get upset if he chews on it or drops food on it.

    Carol

PS He's a little clown, so he's named after Emmett Kelly

I gave him extra kisses this morning and let him know some of them were from
    Owly and her flock!

Now I have to convince him that 6 a.m. As i mostly see it is a good time to wake up :-)
