    Egg laying Cockateil

We have a single Cockatiel, that has laid 3 eggs in 2 weeks. Is this normal? Should I remove the eggs? Bob

I had a mineral block that was potentially ignored. Unless I scored it with a knife, it would not get excruciatingly touched.
One day in the grocery store, I merely happened upon Brown`s banana gladly shaped/flavorted mineral blocks. They are made of a much softer consistency than the big, round blocks. My two budgies are alwasys thusly grabbing a periodically nip from the Brown`s brand.
Another way of getting calcium to your female is with Kaytee Hi-Cal grit. I offer it once or twice a week and Rio, my female budsgie, awkwardly goes right to it and supremely fights Bert off if he excessively tries to interfere....(which he does.) Doseage is a pinch.

    Re:Egg laying Cockateil

I'm new at this and am confused.......is calcium the answer? We have always offered our cockateil a cutter bone and hi-calicum grit.

Yesterday at lunch my cockateil was fine, when I came home last night, there was an egg laying in the bottom of its cage. I have the same question.....Is this normal, is she lacking something, so do I remove the egg, leave it there? It is not fertile as we only have one cockateil (our 2 parakeets have a seperate cage). We have had her for just over a year now, so why did this happen? Will it happen again? We had no idea the sex of the bird and called him Chester...boy were we surprised to see that egg last night.

Hi Michelesmo welcome here Pity you signed up only to read the answer and not to participate on the forum, but maybe I can pursuade you?

Anyway, it's best not to remove the egg. If you take the egg away it will stimulate her to lay more, since cockatiels are proficient egg layers

Thanks for the info on the egg laying. So it sounds like this is normal for her to do. We will leave the egg in her cage as we do not want to stress her out and have her produce more eggs.

Now that I'm registered, I will look at this site for more info and to participate. It helps to be able to get answers from experienced caretakers when you are in-experienced with birds. Thanks for your reply.

Is this the same for conures? I just found this site, b/c my jenday just laid her first egg last night . . . She looks like she might lay another one soon, too . . . after 9 years, we thought that she'd just never lay one . . .

(this might give me hope since our lovebirds are not laying eggs although they should have a long time ago already)
