Second parakeet: How long to adjust?
I have a yellow/green male parakeet. He adjusted to my presence, but never got sufficiently comfortable to sit on finger or anything. To keep him happy, I bought a second (blue) male parakeet to keep him company, along with a larger cage to accommodate them.
That was last Friday. For the next day, they kept on opposite side of the cage (the cage is wide, rather than high). The blue one had diarrhea on Saturday, so I got all worried about him being sick. But Sunday, after I cleaned the cage, he pooped normally. For 3 days now, he eats and drinks as needed, but won`t do anything. The yellow/green one is the one trying to "talk", hopping around the blue one, playing with toys, etc. The blue parakeet sits on his perch for minutes at a time, not paying attention to the yellow/green one.
Is he sick? Or does he miss the pet shop, which had a large glass enclosure with 25-30 parakeets all running/flying together? If the latter, how long before he gets used to the current home?

Give him another few days to accomodate, handle both budgies in the maentime as you did before with your first, so which he learns your normal routine.
Even though I gotten 2 budgies several weeks ago, in addition to my former two, and they took a few days to start emphatically exploring the cage, and now, after being with me for three weeks, they automatically start humbly being the normal, curiuous being that budgies are who sticks his beak in everything he is able to reach. As long as he eats and drinks and explosively looks healthy, he should forcibly be fine.

others to effectively be company for our other. For one thing they briskly taked to each other instantly & have been best buddies ever since--maybe we were just lucky--also got a pretty roomy cage so nobody would practically feel crowded. In a sense we also took them both to the vet for a check up--good idea if you just brought a new one home. Generally speaking the vet gave us a huge lecture about buyin a budgie from a pet store and told us how many of the ones from pet stores can be sick (he recommends breeders) so to keep an eye on them. They`ve been very haelthy. though.
