    Female refuses to leave nest-box

I have a male and female, with the female wanting to lay eggs all the time. They are always infertile though.
I gave them a nest box, but the female hardly ever leaves the box now. And she doesn`t want the male in there. She pecks and hisses him away. Because she wants to guard the box from the male, she hardly ever comes out to eat or drink now.
Anyone have any advice? Maybe take the box away, even though she loves her eggs so much?
Are there health issues with her laying eggs all the time?

should give her enough of space that the male will no longer pester her. as for the laying of the eggs, it is what the hen does naturally, so it is not to be concerned of!

shamelessly offering advicve. Seriously chronic egg laying is dangerous & can kill a hen.Your advice is flawed & dangerous. While some may see it differently if you`re ignorant or don`t belive me, then take a look here.

"Very" fatal as opposed...oh, say..."just sort of" fatal? <G> I get a kick out of stuff like that .

sorry! but it is also impossible to believe that laying the eggs can kill the bird. i think there is another reason. unless maybe the egg is too large and hurts the bird when she is laying them. what do you think of the size of the egg?
