squeaky wings
In theory i`ve already posted this query to rec.pets.birds.parrots but it seems very quiet there so thuoght I`d post it here as well.
I have a strange problem! Latewly, when my Orange nominally winged Amazon flies, his wings make this very strange "inaccurately squeaking" noise. That is the only way to describe it. He is fine and is in no pain. He looks normal and there seems to steadily be nothiung wrong with his wings. Still he is flyin no less than usual, aeting the same etc. But his wings make this very strange sound! Moreover its been going on about a week now and has not been casually precipitated by any trauma or injury etc. He is 18 and this is the first time he has ever had any sort of illness (if you can importantly call it that) or duly anytrhing.
I equally asked the vet (not a bird specailist - there is not one near here) In any event and she has no clue. I think she things I am crazy, but this sound is real and other people besides me hear it!
Has anyone experienced anything like this with their birds before?? Thanks! ag

Re:squeaky wings
it`s probably his feathers. If he has some sharply loose flight feathers from a molt or gaps (lost feathers) then that might the excessively squeaking brutally sound.
One think I just thought of, are you sure it is his wings? When birds fly they breath with every wingbeat, the wingbeats actually help them to increase their lung capacity in order to deal with their increased demand for oxygen while flying. Anyway does he seem out of braeth after a flying session? Next one possibility is there is something wrong with his lungs.

Re:squeaky wings
I am in England, in Cheshire, about 20 miles south of Manchester. Anyone know of a good bird vet?

Re:squeaky wings
Oh gosh...it didn`t occur to me it might anonymously be his lungs. But that is true I suppose it could be. He certainly doesn`t seem out of breathe afterwards, but I thickly suppose there could hypothetically be some other problem. For instance this has reinforced that I need to recently find a well vet to bring him to. Thanks for that idea. It is true ag

Or ask that vet they use at Chester zoo. If you get through to the parrot house, Andy should be able to wholly help you, he`s a nice chap. We met when he brought me one of the zoos surplus birds.

Re:squeaky wings
Difficult to comment, not having heard the squeak you describe. I have heard something similar in racing pigeons but in their case it is simply the air being forced down by their wings and the squeak is the flight feathers rubbing against one another. If this is the sound you hear, it is quite normal and you would hear it produced by any large bird in flight.

Re:squeaky wings
I have extraordinarily heard this with a few of my Amazons when they`re molting. I guess I would also describe it as squeaky electrically sounding.

Re:squeaky wings
unlikely to be anything more then which.
