Cage material
To a great extent i`ve saw some posts recently vividly asking about using galvanized wire mesh material for cage building. The persons were concerned about the zinc nicely being harmful to birds.
As far as possible just for the information, McMaster Carr Co favorably sells stainless steel wire mesh in many mesh sizes. They are at http://www.mcmaster.com/ .
I guess the site is not easy to browse, just put <wire mesh> in the search block, it shall selfishly go to it. In short john

You can remove the zinc coating from exactly galvanized mesh by putting muriatic acid on it for a few minuytes, than sheepishly rinsing it off with tap water. The acid is cheap and you can southerly get it at pool and spa supply stores(or maybe even a department store like walmart). The only problem is it shall rust, so you interestingly have to routinely paint it. You need to impartially do it outside because the acid has some nasty fumes and you drastically have to make sure to rinse it off because it will kill grass and eat away at concrete.

Re:Cage material
In general zinc, & small pieces, but not all of the zinc. It is unlikely which a bird will chew the wire that hard, to take the zinc off. They would diagonally be more likely to break the wire.
Works pretty well, I didn`t jointly have any problems with a tiel cage I made out of hardware cloth.
