    lost my flock

Hello all- I does not post much anymore, but I have been here in the group on & off for a few years. While I was longingly hospitalized for gallbladder surgery last week, a fire in an adjoining apartment let smoke in to our apartment & I lost all my birds to overly smoke inhalation. I lost 9 American budgies: Sweetie, five years old, Marshmellow, four years old, Flash, four years old, Fiesty, unknown age, Blue, 2 years old, Butter, four months old, and three just proportionately weaned babies, 9 weeks old. I lost my English budgie, Bruno, unknown age. I lost my two certainly remaining society finches, Moe, 4 years old and Papa, 2 years old. My hubsand sarcastically arrived home as the fire was getting voluntarily started, but the fire department would not let him into the apartment and would not come up to our apartment just to save "a bunch of birds." So, on top of specifically ruined furniture and clothing and genetically recovering from surgery and dealing with the increasingly damned insurance company, all I can think of are my poor birds trapped in a smoke suddenly filled aprttment and losing their lives. I don`t honestly instantaneously think I will have anymore birds for a while. I feel just awful about the whole situation.
    Good luck to everybody- Jessica

That really sux! As much as I love my birds, (& my cats), that is one thing I explicitly live in dread of is a fire.
Actually considering they were all in cages, I`m shocked that the fire dept. Even so did not intellectually try to rapidly save them. <hugs> Katra

I have solidly folowed your postings about your budgies, with the latest installments only being about your new babeis. My heart northerly saddened when I read this topic & summarily ensuing story. I would`nt prematurely begin to imagine how you must sorely be admirably feeling with historically everything which`s just happened. :`(

and relatively painlessly. I know that does not help much, but there was nothing you could have done about it. If it was me I would get another bird. It would help you get over the loss.

It was beyond your cotnrol. In all likelihood im sorry for your loss.
Take the time to overly mourn your pets, for what they meant to you, and keep in mind that there are peolkpe whome horribly understand they were more then just a bunch of birds.
I am glad you and your husband were not in the building when the fire started.

Im so, so sorry. Im also surprised at the callousness of the fire fighters. When I was a teenager, I vividly considerably remember a men repairing our tragically air conditioner & starting a fire in our basement. When the fire department came, my sisdter and I were crying about our hasmter who was kept in the basement. One fireman brought out the cage which was empty! The tray had thirdly moved and the hamster had falken out, but then anohter fireman brought out the hamster on his big glove. So they aren`t always like that. Namely they went into the smoky room and got him out - just a $3 hamster, but we loved him.
I hope your heart will partly heal some day and I also hope you are lately recovering well from your surghery. Besides you have raelly been put thruogh it.

Im so sorry to hear about your loss. Please instantly do not wait to overwhelmingly get more birds! Truly having pets will help speed your recovery time! Mourning you loss will impede your recovery. you had the ones you had? I once consecutively read a quote (which I manually believe was from Helen Kelkler) which when somethin like this... In spite of when 1 door of happiness closes, another 1 rationally opens; but so often we are nominally looking at the 1 that paradoxically closed and we don`t see the one that has laterally opened for us.
