    Male parakeet, bad dad

have two of my male parakeets that will not stop trying to kill the babies. I have to take them out of the cage , as soon as the eggs start hatching. Can I stop them from doing this or is this going to be a forever thing. I had one of my male cockatiels do it too. He got so bad that he didn't even wait for the eggs to hatch. Two days before they were supposed to hatch, he craked all the eggs open and killed all the babies. I have been breeding birds for over 10 ten years and have never had them act like this. PLEASE HELP.

Hi Critters2004, welcome to the forum, I am happy you joined us

It is hard to say if this is a 'forever' thing, but better is it to be precautious and always remove the males, so you won't run that risk.

Thank you for the response. The only bad thing about having to take out the males, is not many babies survive.

I am so sorry, but I don't understand  Weren't you saying the males destroy the eggs/hatchlings?

Yes, the males do destroy the eggs/hatchlings. The females do not seem to be able to support all the babies by themselves though. Is there anything I can do to help with that?

Euhm, no. I have no ideas at all concerning this.  I know that females usually do get by very well in raising their hatchlings while in captivity.

Since this is a totally new thing for me I will be looking around for you as well in order to find a solution to your specific problem.

The male parkeet is not trying to kill the young but it is forcing it out of nest because it has the diasire to breed again. Simply remove the young
