HELP!! female parakeet sitting on eggs forever!!!

I don't know what to do, my female parakeet has been sitting on her eggs for over a week now, getting closer to two and i have no male bird. this is the second time she's laid eggs but the first time she just laid three and after a few days she left them alone, now she's laid five eggs and has been sitting on them for close to two weeks. They've gotta be rotten by now but i don't know if i'm supposed to make her get off and throw them away or what. Please Help<br><br>Post edited by: jessstawarski, at: 2008/03/25 01:52

Hi Jessstawarski, welcome to the forum I hope you will like it here.

If you take the eggs away she will most probably lay new ones. You should make the decision what is better. I would just leave them, she will lose interest at some time or another.

Excuse me for asking but what is a parakeet is it a budgie, or cockatiel etc. I'm an Aussie and we don't call them parakeets.

61TJ, parakeet is the term of a large variety of unrelated parrot species (usually small and medium sized only). Both the Budgie and the Cocktiel are parakeets

Hi Checkers, welcome to the forum Cross mixing birds can happen yes, but not really often I think.


I think that after 3 months you should remove the eggs though. Aren't they terribly smelly by now? :unsure:
