I have two parakeets, I bought them at different times but from the same place. I was told that one was a male and the other was a female. But I'm just starting to wonder because I have stuff set up for them to breed when they are ready, but so far the are not interested in the bird houses at all. I was told that the color of the bridge of their beak how you tell, blue = male, tan = female. I was also told you can tell by turning them over and feeling the bone between their legs, if it is diamond shaped and closed = male, open like to parallel lines that never touch = female. I'm confused because both of my birds have the opened bones between their legs, and the one I thought was a male has a very blue bridged beak, and the other has a blueish, purpleish, tanish bridged beak. Can anyone help me out here. I don't have the money to take them to the vet and that is what a few other people have told me to do. Does anyone out there know for sure how to tell female from male? Thanks
