Not sure if pigeons are abandoned by parents
Hi, I live in Sausalito, California, near San Francisco. The weather is breezy and cool often because of the fog from the Golden Gate.
Recently a pigeon built a nest and soon it had two eggs. For some time, perhaps over a week, the parents took turns sitting on the eggs and then keeping the baby pigeons warm. That all ended, seemingly, about 2 days ago. I read that often adults start to leave their young alone more and more as they get older. But these little tykes look like they are cold. I could be wrong. But I'd hate to let them die if the parents go bye bye. I did NOT go near or touch them, so it can't be that my presence has created an issue. I've often had my morning coffee on my balcony, and the pigeons fed their young. So no biggie. But I'm worried they are abandoned. Is it possible the parents are coming around when I'm not looking, and feeding them? Help!

Not sure if pigeons are abandoned by parents
Aprilwine I can understand your worry. I would be the same and probably also would like to jump in and make sure these baby pigeons would survive and turn out healthy. However, I would advise though to not intervene. If the parents really left them to cope alone it is probably nature's call and this is a test for their future to become strong birds.
